Instagram’s New Video App: Boomerang

December 1, 2015

Instagram’s newest standalone app, Boomerang, is the most recent development from the photo-sharing app. Boomerang allows users to shoot one-second long video clips, similar to gifs to then share these videos on social media.

Many are comparing this new app to Vine, the 6-second video app, or Live Photos, a new feature offered on the iPhone 6S. Boomerang itself is basic and doesn’t require an Instagram account to use. It helps the Instagram platform.

Boomerang isn’t Instagram’s first standalone app. “Layout” and “Hyperlapse” were released by Instagram earlier this year. This past July, Instagram released “Bolt,” an app similar to Snapchat.
